Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services is a provincially designated Child Well-Being Agency that provides Prevention, Protection, and Child and Family services that reflect values, beliefs and principles rooted within the Anishinabek culture. We serve the communities of Wahnapitae, Dokis, Henvey Inlet, Magnetawan, Shawanaga, and Wasauksing First Nations.

Alternative Care Worker

Full-Time, 6 Month Contract

Reporting to the Alternative Care Services Supervisor, the Alternative Care Worker is responsible for providing support to Alternative Care Providers, recruitment and retention of Indigenous alternative care homes. The Alternative Care Worker will conduct home assessments in accordance with Agency and Ministry guidelines and is responsible for alternative care services to ensure that children/youth in care receive optimum care, and that the services meet Agency and Ministry standards. The Alternative Care Worker functions within Legislative requirements, Regulations, Policies and Procedures, the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Salary: $96,810.00 to $117,784.00

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor of Social Worker Degree preferred
  • Minimum education of College Diploma in Human Services

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum Experience is three (3) years direct experience working with children/youth and families in First Nation Child Welfare Protection

Knowledge Requirements

  • Knowledge of Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services programs and services
  • Respect, sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of the Anishinabek culture and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
  • Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to child welfare

Other Requirements

  • Satisfactory Police Records Check (as directed by agency)
  • Class ‘G’ Ontario Drivers licence, access to a vehicle and ability to travel
  • $1M auto insurance liability coverage
  • Three year (3) uncertified Drivers Abstract

Work Site Location

  • North Bay, NCFS Eagles Hub location

Key Job Functions

  • Supporting Children by providing day-to-day case management services for children placed in the care and custody of the Agency and in Alternative Care settings
  • Supporting Alternative Care Homes – to recruit, assess and support the ongoing efforts of the Alternative Cares homes, including Kinship Services
  • Assess, monitor, and support alternative care services to ensure that children in the care of Society receive optimum care, and that the services meet Society and Ministry standards
