Camp Counsellor

Muskoka Discovery Centre is hiring dedicated, responsible, enthusiastic camp counselors for our fun filled educational Summer Camp Program. Camp Counsellors are expected to maintain open lines of communication and work in a cooperative manner with other Camp Counsellors and Program Leaders in fulfilling roles and duties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Care, supervision and program facilitation for their assigned campers in each daily session
• Maintain discipline during each activity
• Create a positive rapport with all campers
• Be aware of camper dietary/medical needs
• Supervise campers during snacks/meal periods and drop off/pick up periods
• Supervise campers during any recreational and special outings
• Lead groups from one activity to the next in an orderly manner, lead all daily activities for your camper group each day
• Attend all training sessions and regular meetings
• Keep accurate records, incident reports, report immediately to camp director,
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High energy, self-starter
• Desire to work with children/youth in an educational setting
• Excellent people skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Able to problem solve effectively
• Ability to observe/assess camper behaviour, enforce safety regulations & emergency procedures
• Experience working with children an asset
• Physically able to provide active care, programming and supervision of campers 5 days a week for the duration of the contract
• Candidates must be currently certified in First Aid/Level C CPR certifications
• Valid driver’s license an asset
• Criminal records check with vulnerable sector check
• Candidates should be prepared for physical labour of lifting, moving (chairs/tables, etc) and lots of walking (very active job)

Ideal applicants are recent graduates in: Early Childhood Education Programs, Bachelor of Education, Educational Assistant programs. Applicants must love to work with children.
