Job Details
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
1. Supervise Summer Waterfront Team in Lifeguarding and Instruction of programs.
2. Effectively communicate with staff , Recreation Coordinator and Manager.
3. Responsible for opening and closing the building daily.
4. Ensure staff read and follow the Town’s Aquatic Manual guidelines.
5. Assist and/or lead staff training sessions in June, July, and August.
6. Assist in creating staff schedules for instruction, life guarding, trainings and kayak programs.
7. Ensure patron-to-lifeguard ratios are maintained and beach area is monitored effectively while on duty.
8. Conduct periodic inventory of equipment & make recommendations for the purchase of new equipment.
9. Make recommendations to Recreation Coordinator for improvements to program delivery.
10. Provide instruction on Lifesaving Society Swim programs to a variety of ages.
11. Required to examine Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross courses.
12. Take lead role in the planning, organization, and promotion of a water safety campaign and assist with the coordination of the Make a Splash event.
13. Prepare program reports and statistics at end of program season.
14. Provide daily maintenance, clean-up of the beach and park area.
15. Provide general supervision of park area and encourage proper behaviour of public.
16. Provide information to the public on programs and events.
17. Monitor washrooms to ensure proper conduct and discourage acts of vandalism.
18. Report illegal behaviour (alcohol consumption, vandalism) to O.P.P., Recreation Coordinator, and Manager.
19. Ensure incident reports are completed by staff and forward to Community Recreation Coordinator or Manager of Recreation Services.
20. Complete staff & program evaluations in collaboration with the Recreation Coordinator.
21. Prepare and submit a fi nal Waterfront Program Report with recommendations in consultation with Assistant Lead hand and Instructor/Guards.
22. Kayaks excursions: assist in promotion of program, ensure safety of participants and staff
23. Waterfront Staff is required to assist in the installation of the docks and buoy lines in June – dates to be determined.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
1. Current Red Cross & Lifesaving Society Water Safety Instructor Certification.
2. Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Waterfront Certification.
3. Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C & AED.
4. Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training.
5. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor.
6. Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor.
7. Lifesaving Society Bronze Examiner.
8. High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (contact us for future training dates)
9. WHMIS 2015 certification is required for all new hires and must be presented at time of hire.
10. Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
11. Valid G license with clean drivers abstract satisfactory to corporation and have own
transportation to and from work locations.
12. Ability to work early morning, weekend and evening hours, as required.
13. Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in handling matters of a confidential or sensitive nature, and to maintain confidentiality.
14. Ability to deal effectively and courteously in all aspects of the position; to work effectively at fostering good rapport and cooperative working relationships.
15. Possess strong customer service experience and an interest in community history.
16. Good communication (written, oral, and interpersonal), customer service, and organizational skills.
17. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office Applications, and Office equipment.

Waterfront Season: late June to early September (includes Labour Day)
Mandatory Staff Training: TBD
Employment Period: June to early September (includes Labour Day)
35 hours a week, hours may vary depending on weather conditions and participant numbers.
