Job Details
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide instruction of Lifesaving Society programs to a variety of ages.
2. Lifeguard during periods determined by the Lead Hand in consultation with the Community Recreation Coordinator.
3. Responsible for opening and closing the building, as required.
4. Participate and attend all staff training sessions.
5. Assist the Lead Hand in various areas as required (events, training, supervision, etc.).
6. Complete registrations for waterfront programs.
7. Provide information to the public on programs and events.
8. Assist with the planning, organization and promotion of a swim safety campaign.
9. Prepare program reports and statistics at end of program season.
10. Provide daily maintenance and clean-up of beach and park area.
11. Provide general supervision of park area to monitor public activities.
12. Monitor washrooms to ensure proper conduct and discourage acts of vandalism.
13. Report all illegal behaviour (alcohol consumption, vandalism) to O.P.P.
14. Ensure patron-to-lifeguard ratios are maintained and the beach is scanned effectively while on duty.
15. Ensure a written report is completed for each incident and communicated to the Community Recreation Coordinator.
16. Assist the waterfront lead hand with the role in the planning, organization and promotion of a water safety campaign and assist with the coordination of the Make a Splash event.
17. Kayaks Excursion - assist in promotion of program, ensure safety of participants & provide instruction.
18. Waterfront Staff is required to assist in the installation of the docks and buoy lines in June – dates to be determined.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for own transportation to and from work locations.
• Demonstrate professional behaviour at all times.
• Act as positive role models for the children.
• Project a positive image to the children, their parents, fellow staff and the general public
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
1. Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Waterfront Certification.
2. Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C & AED.
3. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor.
4. Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor.
5. Lifesaving Society Bronze Examiner.
6. High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (contact us for future training dates)
7. WHMIS 2015 Certification is required for all new hires and must be presented at time of hire.
8. Working knowledge/understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
9. Valid G license with clean drivers abstract satisfactory to corporation and have own
transportation to and from work locations.
10. Possess strong customer service experience and an interest in community history.
11. Good communication (written, oral and interpersonal), presentation, customer service, and
organizational skills.
12. Ability to deal effectively and courteously in all aspects of the position; to work effectively at fostering good rapport and cooperative working relationships.
13. Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in handling matters of a confidential or sensitive nature, and to maintain confidentiality.
14. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office applications, and office equipment.
REQUIRED DATES, HOURS AND RATE OF PAY
Waterfront Season: late June to early September (includes Labour Day)
Mandatory Staff Training: TBD
Employment Period: June to early September (includes Labour Day)
35 hours a week, hours may vary depending on weather conditions and participant numbers.
