Classification: Full Time, Permanent

Weekly Hours: 44 hours per week, plus overtime as required

Typical Schedule: 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

Primary Location: Port Carling

Wage Information: $20-25, based on qualifications and experience

Key Responsibilities:

As a Timber Mill Plane/Saw Operator you will play a critical role in the day-to-day yard operations—supporting both customer satisfaction and manufacturing activities.

  • Assist with the operation and set up power fed planer machine
  • Assist with the operation and set up of timber saw/re-saw 
  • Select and install knives in cutter head
  • Perform regular daily maintenance activities on planer machine, timber saw and other machines and minor repairs and maintenance activities on related equipment and tools
  • Assist with unloading rail trucks of raw materials, including proper sorting and sizing of lumber
  • Maintain dimensional lumber knowledge
  • Load and unload materials from delivery trucks and customer vehicles
  • Prepare customer orders accurately based on sales orders and delivery slips, ensuring accuracy of orders to written sales orders
  • Operate forklifts and other yard equipment safely (after receiving proper certification)
  • Receive and verify incoming shipments against bills of lading or purchase orders
  • Report damaged, missing, or incorrect inventory to the Receiving Clerk or Supervisor
  • Perform regular yard and warehouse housekeeping duties
  • Maintain clear and safe aisles, walkways, and loading zones
  • Assist customers in locating and loading materials in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Follow all company health and safety policies, including PPE use and hazard reporting
  • Participate in training sessions and toolbox talks as scheduled
  • Support other tasks or departments as required by Management

  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the role, including regular lifting of up to 80lbs and working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Strong literacy and communication skills, including reading, writing, listening, and verbal comprehension
  • Familiarity with dimensional lumber specifications
  • Strong understanding of timber varieties and lumber types
  • Ability to recognize and size lumber using numerical measurements
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience, an asset
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Forklift certification is an asset (training available if not yet certified)
  • Prior experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or construction, an asset. Previous experience working in a saw mill setting is preferred.
  • Comfortable with basic measurement, order picking, and material handling
  • Safety-first mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Professional and courteous with customers and co-workers
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to a positive, team-oriented workplace
