Summer Camp Maintenance

Position Overview
The Maintenance Person plays a key role in ensuring camp facilities, grounds, and equipment remain safe, functional, and welcoming throughout the summer season. This position supports daily camp operations by completing repairs, performing preventive maintenance, and assisting with a variety of projects to keep the camp environment running smoothly.  Maintenance Staff report to our Head of Maintenance and Camp Ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on buildings, cabins, docks, trails, and camp infrastructure.
  • Complete minor carpentry, painting, and repair tasks as needed.
  • Assist with daily upkeep of the grounds, including lawn care, path clearing, waste management, and general tidiness.
  • Support the set-up, care, and closing of activity areas and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from camp leadership and requisitions.
  • Assist with waterfront equipment set-up and small dock repairs.
  • Work alongside other maintenance staff to complete larger projects.
  • Follow all safety procedures and model safe work practices at all times.
  • Assist with maintaining and monitor drinking water systems and septic systems
  • Assist with daily maintenance log books
  • Assist with regular checks on all systems at camp – water and septic

Equipment & Tools

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, identifying issues and performing minor repairs.
  • Safely operate tools and machinery (hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, boat motors, etc.)
  • Maintain and repair outboard boat motors
  • Maintain an organized workshop and ensure tools remain in safe, working condition.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Lead to prioritize tasks.
  • Support Directors and Counselling staff with facility needs or equipment preparation.
  • Assist with deliveries, transportation of supplies, and general camp logistics

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience in general maintenance, groundskeeping, or trades work.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
  • Trade skills – Carpentry, Small engines, and large engines an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, bending, and completing manual tasks.
  • WHMIS & OHSA Training (can be completed prior to arrival at camp)
  • Criminal Reference Check
  • Standard First Aid Certification preferred (can be completed prior to arrival at camp)

  • Dependable and organized.
  • Practical, resourceful, and safety-conscious.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
  • Able to work in a remote location

Contract Details

  • Seasonal position – May through October
  • Full-time hours
  • Room and Board available
  • Competitive Hourly wage based on Qualifications
