Description
The Membership Salesperson will be the Muskoka Lakes Association’s front-line position for increasing MLA Membership. Increasing membership is critical to the on-going success of the MLA in advocating responsible stewardship and enjoyment of the unique environment of the Muskoka Lakes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys developing leads and speaking with potential members.
This position reports to both the General Manager and to Steve White, Committee Member – Communications and Membership Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Membership Salesperson is responsible for increasing membership by generating, developing and closing leads for new MLA members. They will work collaboratively with the Communications and Membership Committee and the General Manager who will support lead generation and provide sales support. They will also attend an orientation and sales planning workshop at the beginning of their contract, as well as a weekly virtual sales performance review and coaching meeting.
The Membership Salesperson will initiate, develop, follow-up and close sales campaigns focused on the following:
- Renewing past members who have lapsed their membership for two or more years.
- Selling memberships to non-MLA This includes existing and new Muskoka lakefront property owners, as well as off-lake homeowners in the townships of Muskoka Lakes and Sequin, and the towns of Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.
- Up-selling Supporting Members to Primary Membership.
- Attending MLA member and public
Requirements
- Experience in Not-for-Profit Membership sales preferable
- A proven track record in Sales is required
- Proven team player
- Established work ethic and outgoing personality a must
- Ability to work independently with periodic support
- Knowledge of Muskoka and the Muskoka Lakes Association a definite asset
- Muskoka local or cottager preferred
Renumeration
This position will be a four-month contract with a non-recoverable salary of $2,400. per month. There will also be a commission of 25% on all new membership revenues from the sales campaigns identified above, paid monthly. It is anticipated that monthly commissions would range between $750. and $1,500.
Timing and Hours
It is anticipated that the Membership Salesperson would start their four-month contract on May 4th and work until the week of August 31st, 2026.
The Membership Salesperson will be expected to be both in the MLA office in Port Carling, as well as out in the field identifying, developing, and closing new membership sales. Their sales duties will include attendance at MLA Events (Seedling Day, MLA Leadership Forum, Port Carling Antique Boat Show, Farmer’s Markets, etc.).
The anticipated monthly hours worked will be roughly 35 hours a week.
