Position Overview

Explore Huntsville seeks a dedicated and organized General Manager to join our team for the 2026 Ontario 55+ Winter Games. The successful candidate will work alongside the Executive Director to support committee chairs and ensure effective delivery of this prestigious event for older adult athletes occurring in Huntsville, Ontario, from February 3-5, 2026.

Position Details

  • Position: Games General Manager
  • Work Term: May 2025 – April 2026
  • Salary: $50,000 (or commensurate with experience)
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, with some evenings and weekends; requires flexibility
  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Responsible to: Chairperson and Games Organizing Committee

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Sport Technical Committee in venue evaluation, planning and preparation.
  • Assist the Volunteer Committee with recruitment, registration, training, scheduling and recognition programs.
  • Collaborate with the Fundraising Chairperson and Executive Director to approach potential funding partners.
  • Work with the Media Chairperson on promotions and public awareness campaigns.
  • Plan, organize and evaluate special community events leading up to the Games.
  • Help develop and manage registration systems for volunteers, participants and other stakeholders.
  • Support merchandise marketing and ticket sales initiatives.
  • Assist the Accommodation Committee with athlete housing requests and guest services.
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Committee on scheduling and communications.
  • Develop and maintain a Master Critical Path for all committees.
  • Prepare agendas and take minutes for Games Organizing Committee meetings.
  • Maintain the official Games website and ensure effective communication between committee members.
  • Assist with the creation of the Final Report.

Working Conditions

  • Primary work location will be home office with access to Games office (location TBD).
  • Physical demands include lifting office supplies, promotional materials, display units, sports equipment, etc.
  • Some outdoor work may be required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are essential.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation, Special Event Management or Sports Administration is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of personal computers, internet capabilities and web design.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and development.
  • French language skills (oral and written) are considered an asset.
