Job Title/ Location: General Labourer/ Paint Prep

Job Overview/Purpose:  In this role, you will be responsible for preparing surfaces for painting, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and finish. This position is critical to our manufacturing process and contributes directly to our reputation for excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

General Labour (all departments)

Loads and unloads materials, parts, or products as needed

-Delivers metal parts or stock to designated work areas for machining.
-Lifts metal part or stock onto machine and secures it on machine table, in chuck or holding fixtures to assist in setting up machines.
-Assembles steel parts and prepares parts that meet specified requirements.
-Assist where needed in metal preparation, welding or assembly departments
-Operations include sawing, punching, drilling, grinding, chipping and flame cutting.
-Complete daily production cards and other paperwork required for the area.
-Maintain various equipment and supplies.
-Cleaning of machines and work area.
-Removes metal chips and shavings from surfaces on machines and wipes surfaces of machines to remove excess oil.
-Separates metal shavings, chips, and scrap materials from trash and places them in bins for recycle or sale(copper or steel).
-Removes burrs or excess metal from machined parts.

Paint Department

Surface Preparation: This includes cleaning, sanding, and priming surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion. This may involve removing old paint, filling cracks, and smoothing imperfections.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operating and maintaining painting equipment such as spray guns, airless pumps, and blasting equipment.

Safety Compliance: Following safety guidelines and best practices, including working with hazardous materials and in potentially hazardous environments (e.g., heights, confined spaces).

Material Handling: Safely handling and storing various paints, solvents, and other materials used in the painting process.

Communication and Teamwork: Effectively communicating with supervisors and other team members

Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues related to surface preparation, paint application, or equipment malfunction.

Record Keeping: Maintaining records of materials used, work completed, and any other relevant information.

Essential Skills:

Technical Skills: Knowledge of different painting techniques, equipment operation, and material properties.

Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various positions.

Attention to Detail: Ensuring a high-quality, durable finish and adhering to specifications.

Problem-Solving Skills: Identifying and resolving issues related to surface preparation, paint application, or equipment malfunction.

Safety Awareness: Prioritizing safety and adhering to safety protocols, especially when working with hazardous materials and in challenging environments.

Communication Skills: Effectively communicating with supervisors, team members, and other relevant parties.

Working Conditions: 

Work involves exposure to various environmental conditions and potentially hazardous materials. Employee may also work at heights or in confined spaces, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
