Description
Macaulay Tree House is seeking an experienced and committed Executive Director to
lead our established non-profit child care organization in Muskoka. We are looking for
someone who brings strong leadership, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to
creating a positive environment for children, families, and staff.
The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and a dedicated
management team to guide daily operations, support staff, manage finances, and ensure
our programs run smoothly and responsibly. This role requires clear communication,
practical decision-making, and the ability to balance day-to-day needs with long-term
organizational planning.
Key Responsibilities
Licensing, Compliance & Accountability
• Ensure all programs meet requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act
(CCEYA) and other relevant legislation.
• Maintain accurate and current information in the Child Care Licensing System
(CCLS).
• Oversee inspections, serious occurrences, renewals, and policy updates.
Board Relations & Governance
• Attend monthly Board meetings and provide a comprehensive Executive
Director’s Report.
• Present monthly financial updates, including budget vs. actuals.
• Support policy development, strategic planning, AGM preparation, and ONCA compliant record keeping.
Organizational Leadership & Human Resources
• Lead and mentor the management team, supporting a positive and professional
workplace culture.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and staff
development.
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.
Financial Oversight
• Manage the annual operating budget in partnership with the Treasurer and
Bookkeeper.
• Monitor financial performance, internal controls, payroll, and fee collection.
• Support CWELCC reporting, Wage Enhancement administration, and annual
audits.
Strategic Planning & Community Relationships
• Implement the Strategic Plan and support long-term organizational goals.
• Maintain positive relationships with the Ministry, District of Muskoka, public
health, school boards, and community partners.
• Identify funding opportunities and strengthen MTH’s role within the community.
Qualifications
• RECE in good standing or equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in licensed child
care or non-profit management.
• Strong understanding of child care operations, compliance requirements, and staff
leadership.
• Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and organizational planning.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and child care communication platforms (e.g.,
Brightwheel).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Current First Aid/CPR-C, Vulnerable Sector Check, and CAS/Child Welfare
Check.
Working Conditions
• Full-time, on-site leadership role in a busy child care environment.
• Regular engagement with staff, families, and sector partners.
• Some evening meetings or community events are required.
Salary: $95,000–$110,000 + benefits
