We’re seeking an Intermediate or Senior Designer - ideally an Architectural Technologist - to join our growing design team in Port Carling. This role is perfect for a creative professional who combines a strong design aesthetic with technical expertise in custom wood-frame construction and local zoning regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Intermediate or Senior Designer, you will be the expert responsible for providing quality custom designs, ensuring every design meets our high standards. In this role, you will:

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D designs using Revit LT and AutoCAD LT.
  • Apply a range of architectural styles and design trends to each project.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of building science and occupant comfort principles.
  • Manage multiple projects and collaborate with team members to meet client timelines.
  • Review plans, sign off with BCIN, and submit drawings to municipalities.
  • Interpret zoning by-laws and advise clients on building allowances.
  • Coordinate with builders, consultants, and suppliers (EWP/truss).
  • Review structural drawings from engineers.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling, preparing documentation, preparing, printing, and binding drawing sets for clients, answer phones and taking messages.
  • Providing assistance and backup assistance, as required for other members of the design team, working as a team to reach set goals.

What you bring:

At Muskoka Lumber, we are looking for a professional who combines technical skill with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Required skills, abilities and attributes:

  • Graduate of 2 - 3 year Architectural or Civil Technology program (Diploma).
  • 5+ years' experience working in custom residential design.
  • BCINs: Legal, House/Small Buildings, Plumbing House, and HVAC House.
  • Valid (G) Driver's license.
  • AATO or CET membership considered an asset; Architectural Technologist preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code. Working knowledge of Simcoe/Muskoka by-Laws and zoning requirements is an asset.
  • Experience researching local by-laws and zoning requirements.
  • Experience submitting to local municipalities from initial review to sign off on plans with BCIN.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Revit LT, and AutoCAD LT.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn: EWP layout software (Sapphire Supply), single member sizing software (WoodWorks), and HVAC design software (Right-Suite Universal).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail, with proven ability to meet deadlines while balancing competing and changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with coworkers, customers, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and municipal officials.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative design team, providing notes and sharing with coworkers.
