TOWNSHIP OF ARMOUR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Township of Armour is presently seeking applications for the position of Communication & Marketing Officer
Pay Range: $28.18/hr – $34.67/hr (35 hours/week)
The Township of Armour is a single tier municipality, located 2 ½ hours north of Toronto, ON in the District of Parry Sound. This small rural municipality offers a beautiful and diverse area for recreational, leisure, agriculture and tourism opportunities.
The Communications & Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for leading and supporting various departmental communications processes and economic development activities in the region as set out in Almaguin Community Economic Development Annual Work Plans and by the Director of Economic Development. The CMO serves as the main ACED staff member responsible for various aspects of departmental communications related to tourism, business support services, media requests, and other public and stakeholder facing messaging.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages, improves, and maintains the ExploreAlmaguin.ca website and social media accounts including responding to inquiries, creating, and managing posts, and engaging with the public.
2. Maintains the regional business directory and investment property inventory.
3. Leads the development and distribution of promotional tools and marketing materials to support community events, department programs and other regional initiatives.
4. Assists in the implementation of the various economic development projects and activities as assigned by the Director of Economic Development.
5. Maintains communication with the Chamber of Commerce and other economic development organizations.
6. Assists in the delivery of programs and services to improve the business environment in the community.
7. Assists in developing and maintaining active contact with other business and economic development organizations, and government agencies in order to stay informed of current programs and services and ensure that the regional interests are served.
8. Manages project files associated with work plan items and associated initiatives. Supports the design and implementation of project specific tasks where required.
9. Attends and facilitates community meetings (virtually and publicly) to provide information and updates to the public at large. Conducts research, analysis, planning, and evaluation for the department. Complies with departmental policies, procedures and standards to ensure all related regulations and legislation are met.
10. Maintains a professional image and conducts all business in a manner that positively promotes the ACED Board, department and member municipalities / organizations.
11. Other duties as assigned / required.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILL:
1. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in a variety of written communication styles (report design, professional communications, creative/copy writing).
2. Experience or training related to basic website maintenance and social media management including managing and creating & promoting content and social media posts, managing public feedback, etc.
3. Experience in a computerized environment with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom and other commonly used applications.
4. Relevant post secondary education related to marketing, media, and/or other communications related fields.
5. Working experience in marketing, communications, and/or economic development is considered an asset.
6. Required to work under pressure within severe time constraints maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
7. Required to perform duties outside normal working hours by attending meetings, training and special meetings, as required.
8. Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
9. Preference will be given to applicants with 2 or more years in professional communications, marketing, or economic development positions.
10. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (mileage expenses paid for work related travel).
Independence of Action
Some degree of independence of action is associated with this position and good judgement and discretion are required. The incumbent is expected to adapt established methods and procedures. Work involves a choice of methods or procedures.
Mental Effort
Variety of duties with frequent interruptions. Work is varied and requires frequent shifting from one task to another. Mental, visual and /or aural concentration is required when entering data, preparing reports, responding to requests, etc.
Physical Effort
Work is conducted in an office environment, travelling off-site and as needed for meetings and events and may be required to work outside regular business hours.
Dexterity
The coordination of fine motor skills is required when operating office and photography equipment. i.e. computer, photocopier, shredder, telephone, fax machine, digital cameras, etc.
Accountability
Actions could result in some loss of time or resources or cause some embarrassment within the organization and have some impact on its public image.
Safety of Others
The degree of care required is typical of a general office setting.
Contacts
The job involves frequent dealings with the public, developers, new business owners, committees, etc. to respond to requests as well as to provide and clarify information.
Working Conditions
Work may involve dealing with difficult individuals and includes occasional exposure to rudeness or profanity. The position is subject to deadlines. Required to attend at meetings and other functions outside of regular working hours.
