TOWNSHIP OF MACHAR is recruiting for EQUIPMENT OPERATORS (2) to join our team.

This is a position full time at 40 hours per week plus overtime as needed. Regular hours: 7:30 a.m. — 4:00 p.m., Winter Control Season Nov 1 to Mar 31. The EO will report to the Superintendent of Public Works, be able to operate snowplowing and other heavy equipment during all seasons, take instruction well, good interpersonal and communication skills, basic computer skills, safety oriented, team player, ability to get along with others and work independently, able to identify, analyze and resolve problems, physically able to perform manual labour such as shoveling, moving heavy objects, climbing in and out of heavy equipment, picking materials up off the ground, raking, sweeping, flagging, ability to direct the public appropriately. -DZ License or higher

-Clean Driver's Abstract

-OSSD or Post Secondary

-Criminal reference check

-Must be bondable

Starting Rate of Pay $26.27/hour plus pension plan, and benefits after probation completed.

TOWNSHIP OF MACHAR - JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: REPORTS TO SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Carry out all aspects of Township road and equipment maintenance, under supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works and the Assistant Road Superintendent.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge to have ability to operate and serve a variety of road equipment;

-winter maintenance procedures

-snowplowing and sanding

-patrolling

-operation of steamer

-operation of trucks, grader, backhoe, tractor

-chainsaw operation

-knowledge of winter and summer road conditions

SKILLS

Experience in repair and maintenance of roads, ditches, culverts. Possession of valid Driver's Licences (Class D-Z minimum).

-propane certificate

-proper licencing (minimum D-Z)

-welding

EFFORT

Exposure to the extremes of summer and winter weather are a regular part of the position, as are nights and weekend work. General manual labour required.

-erect and maintain signs

-culvert maintenance and replacement

-maintenance of Township roads

-cold mix patching

-grading

-resurfacing

-bridge/guardrail maintenance

-shop maintenance

-other duties as assigned by Superintendent of Public Works, Assistant Road Superintendent

WORKING CONDITION

Required to be on call 24/7.

The regular weekly hours of work shall consist of five (5) eight (8) hour days from Monday to Friday inclusive of a total of forty (40) hours per week, 7:30 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. inclusive of a % hour unpaid meal break. Winter Control Season (Nov 1 to Mar 31) hours of work starting and finishing times may be adjusted so as to provide snow ploughing and winter roads maintenance coverage as required. Any hours paid in excess of forty (40) hours in one (1) week shall be compensated at the overtime rate as per Collective Agreement.
