Position Overview:
The Addiction Counsellor will be responsible for providing counseling, support, and case management services to individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. The role involves both individual and group counseling, development of treatment plans, and collaboration with healthcare and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct client assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide one-on-one and group counseling to individuals with substance use and addiction issues.
- Support harm reduction, relapse prevention, and recovery planning initiatives.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive client care.
- Connect clients with community resources, healthcare, housing, and support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation.
- Facilitate educational workshops and support groups related to addiction, coping skills, and mental health.
- Advocate for client needs within healthcare and social service systems.
- Participate in ongoing program development, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Addictions Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Certification in Addiction Counseling (e.g., ICADC, CCAC) is an asset.
- 1–2 years experience working in addiction and/or mental health services.
- Strong understanding of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and client-centered approaches.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with case management systems and documentation standards.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation may be required.
