MUSKOKA WOMEN’S SHELTERS AND SERVICES

Relief Support Worker

We are seeking applications from those interested in 2 Relief Support Worker positions at the two women's shelters operated by our organization: Muskoka Interval House in Bracebridge, and Chrysalis in Huntsville. This staff position provides occasional shift coverage for regularly scheduled employees on an as-needed basis. Hours of work are variable, including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, as required to assist in providing staffing coverage for both shelters.

DUTIES

Provide immediate and responsive crisis support services by telephone and in person to women who are survivors of violence and abuse of all types

Conduct assessment, intake, and discharge procedures for residents of Muskoka Interval House/Chrysalis

Offer service users information, clarification, emotional support, practical assistance, safety planning, resource identification, assistance with referrals/access to community services and advocacy, as needed, for women who have experienced violence or abuse of any type, as well as offering support and information regarding their children

Provide accompaniment and transportation as necessary and when possible

Adhere to confidentiality, safety, security and emergency policies and procedures at all times

Maintain and complete the administrative requirements of this frontline role, including tracking, logging information, documentation, recording and reporting data

Provide interpersonal conflict resolution when required

Work independently and as a team member to ensure effective case management and service provision

Liaise with other relevant agencies/organizations within the community

Participate in and promote cooperative living within the shelter, including food preparation and house maintenance/cleaning

Attend relevant meetings/events as required and when possible

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Post-secondary education in relevant discipline or equivalent experience, preferably as a support worker in a similar setting

Knowledge of the issues and complexities related to violence against women including systemic barriers experienced by women and intersectionality of forms of oppression

Experience in working with women of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and linguistic skills

Experience in telephone and in-person support work

Demonstrated tact, interpersonal skills, sound judgment and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Proven ability to work independently and as an effective team member

Flexible to work various hours on a rotating schedule, often with short notice of shift availability

Preferably holds a valid driver’s license and owns or has access to a reliable, properly insured vehicle

Proficient in using Microsoft Office/ internet/ email

Successful candidates must be willing provide the organization with an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Check

Current certification in First Aid/CPR

Fluency in both English and French (written and verbal) will be considered an asset

 

Starting rate of pay is $23.71 per hour in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
