Description

Job Title: Junior Environmental Field Consultant / Ecology Researcher – Short-Term Paid Contract

Location: 37 Broad River Road, Seguin Township, Ontario (near Parry Sound)
Work arrangement: One on-site visit, with document review and report preparation completed remotely
Timing: Immediate; written work ideally completed by November 24 or 25, 2026

Project summary

A property owner is seeking a senior student, recent graduate, environmental technician or junior professional for a focused, site-specific environmental review concerning an existing approximately 65-square-metre garage near a shoreline. The matter is the subject of an Ontario Land Tribunal minor-variance appeal, with a one-day hearing scheduled for December 7, 2026.

This is a limited-scope assignment involving one site visit and a concise written analysis. It is not presently intended to be a full Environmental Impact Study.

Scope of work

  • Review existing planning reports, municipal materials, site plans and photographs.
  • Attend the property for one site visit and document relevant existing conditions with observations and photographs.
  • Compare the environmental effects of retaining the garage in its current location with appropriate mitigation versus relocating it farther from the shoreline.
  • Consider vegetation and tree impacts, boulder or bedrock disturbance, grading and excavation, erosion, runoff, stormwater infiltration, shoreline protection, water quality and fish-habitat considerations.
  • Identify practical mitigation, revegetation and erosion/runoff-control measures.
  • Prepare a concise, objective written analysis explaining the observations, comparison and recommendations.

Preferred qualifications

  • Senior student, recent graduate or junior professional in environmental science, ecology, biology, fish and wildlife, ecosystem management, natural resources, environmental planning or a related discipline.
  • Relevant field-observation, research, mapping, photography or technical-report-writing experience.
  • Knowledge of Ontario shoreline ecology, natural heritage, erosion/runoff or freshwater/fish habitat is an asset.
  • Ability to travel to the property in Seguin Township.
  • Ability to work objectively and complete the assignment within the required timeframe.

Compensation

This is a paid short-term contract. Compensation is negotiable based on qualifications and the agreed scope. Applicants should provide their proposed hourly rate or fixed-fee quote.
