Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, External Affairs, the Community Relations Lead supports the development and maintenance of respectful, collaborative relationships between the company and local communities including regional First Nations connected to the project. The role works closely with community leadership, internal departments, and project teams to ensure effective consultation, transparent communication, and fulfillment of company commitments.
This position supports community engagement activities, consultation requirements, and implementation of community agreements while promoting opportunities for Indigenous and local employment, business participation, and long-term partnership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as a primary local point of contact between the company and community members including the regional First Nations
• Maintain regular communication with local communities including regional First Nations and respond to questions, concerns, and requests for information related to company activities and projects.
• Provide clear and accurate information about company operations, exploration activities, and project development to community members, leadership, and other stakeholders.
• Travel regionally to participate in meetings, presentations, and engagement activities.
• Participate in and support community engagement initiatives including career fairs, workshops, open houses, community meetings, and cultural events.
• Develop and implement annual engagement work plans in alignment with company commitments, agreements, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of commitments under Indigenous Partnership Agreement, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), or other community agreements where applicable.
• Maintain community commitments register to track company obligations, follow-up actions, and reporting related to engagement activities.
• Coordinate and organize meetings between community representatives and company leadership, project teams, and technical specialists.
• Prepare and submit monthly community engagement reports to the management team summarizing activities, emerging issues, community feedback, and follow-up actions.
• Coordinate traditional language translation and interpretation services,
• Provide support to the Exploration team in meeting consultation requirements under applicable mining and regulatory legislation.
• Collaborate with Human Resources to support local community employment initiatives, including recruitment outreach, training opportunities, and participation in hiring events.
• Work with procurement and supply chain teams to support opportunities for Indigenous and local businesses where appropriate.
• Assist with the development and coordination of cultural awareness and community engagement initiatives within the organization.
• Complete additional departmental projects and assignments, ranging from research to implementation, as required.
• Comply with all health and safety responsibilities in accordance with applicable legislation and company policies and procedures. Comply with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and applicable government legislation.
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Community Development, Environmental Studies, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in community engagement, Indigenous relations, stakeholder relations, or a similar role within the mining, natural resources, government, or infrastructure sectors.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote locations as required.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to develop trust and maintain positive partnerships with Indigenous and local communities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to community members, leadership, and internal teams.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple engagement activities and follow up on commitments.
• Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and respond to community concerns in a respectful and professional manner.
• Experience preparing reports, tracking commitments, and documenting engagement activities.
