Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Boat Builder & Woodworker to join our team at Brackley Boats. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, contributing to the construction and finishing of high-quality boats. You will be responsible for assembling boat components, including mechanical systems, electrical wiring, and wood finishes, and ensuring all parts meet the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Mechanical and/or marine finish work experience is a definite plus for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct and assemble boats from blueprints and engineering specifications
- Perform fiber glassing, gel-coating, and other finishing techniques
- Install mechanical systems, electrical wiring, and other essential boat components
- Ensure all parts are fitted correctly and meet quality standards
- Conduct routine quality checks to maintain high manufacturing standards
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient production processes
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues during the building process
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment
Woodworker Specific Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications for boat components
- Use woodworking tools and machinery (saws, routers, sanders, etc.) to cut, shape, and finish wood parts
- Assemble and install wood components to create boat interiors, exteriors, and structural elements
- Ensure all woodwork meets design specifications and quality standards
- Work closely with the boat-building team to ensure a seamless integration of wood elements with other materials
- Perform regular maintenance on tools and equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Requirements:
- Previous experience in boat building or a related field (e.g., carpentry, fiberglass work, or marine mechanics)
- Strong knowledge of marine construction methods and materials
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and machinery used in boat construction
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively
- A passion for boats and the marine industry
- Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with both fiberglass and wood boat construction
- Mechanical and/or marine finish work experience is a definite plus
- Knowledge of boat safety regulations and quality control standards
