We are seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to serve as a key member of our Fleet & Equipment Maintenance team. Although this position supports the broader Muskoka Lumber group of companies, its primary responsibility is maintaining and repairing the equipment fleet supporting Proline Rentals and Bin operations. Working throughout Simcoe, Muskoka, and Parry Sound, the successful candidate will provide field-based diagnostics, maintenance, and repair services at customer job sites and company locations, contributing directly to equipment reliability and uptime, operational efficiency, and exceptional customer service experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Field Service Technician, you will provide expert field-based diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance services across a diverse fleet of light and heavy equipment. In this role, you will:
- Perform field diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on a wide variety of heavy and light equipment, including aerial work platforms, earthmoving equipment, compaction equipment, generators, small engines, and waste/bin handling equipment.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic, electrical, fuel, powertrain, steering, suspension, braking, and engine systems while utilizing schematics, service manuals, diagnostic software, and testing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance programs, safety inspections, operational testing, and equipment certifications to maximize reliability, compliance, and equipment lifespan.
- Maintain rental fleet, company-owned equipment, and operational assets to ensure equipment readiness and minimize downtime.
- Travel regularly throughout Simcoe, Muskoka, and Parry Sound using an assigned company service vehicle to provide onsite service support at company locations and customer job sites.
- Complete electronic work orders, service reports, inspection records, and maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
- Support Proline Rentals, Bin operations, Muskoka Lumber locations, Windows & Doors by Muskoka Lumber, Jo/Ross Design Inc., and other associated operations through responsive equipment support and repair services.
- Communicate equipment status, repair recommendations, maintenance requirements, and repair timelines with customers, operators, and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, legislative requirements, manufacturer specifications, and workplace safety standards while promoting a strong safety culture.
- Assist with major overhauls, equipment commissioning, shop repairs, inventory management, training, and other maintenance initiatives as required.
What You Bring:
At Muskoka Lumber, we look for professionals who combine strong technical expertise with exceptional customer service, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Required skills, abilities, and attributes include:
- Completion of a post-secondary program or formal apprenticeship recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario related to Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A) or Agricultural Equipment Technician (425A)
- Education related to hydraulics, HVAC systems, electrical systems, or an Ozone Depletion Prevention card is an asset.
- 3-5 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience, including at least 2 years of field service experience, preferably within rental, construction, heavy equipment, or light equipment environments.
- Experience maintaining and repairing aerial work platforms and related equipment, such as Skyjack, Genie, JLG, and other man-lift equipment.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced hydraulics, DC electrical systems, diesel and gasoline engines, schematic interpretation, and computerized diagnostic systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and operational issues.
- Welding experience and certifications, including CWB, TSSA, Red Seal, small engine repair training, or other specialized mechanical certifications, are considered strong assets.
- Strong organizational, administrative, customer service, research, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and repair schedules in dynamic field environments.
- Experience using maintenance tracking and fleet management software, or willingness to learn. Maintenance Pro experience is an asset.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence with an acceptable driver's abstract, along with the willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the service area. AZ/DZ licensing and Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
