Job Summary
To provide for the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. Crossing guards are not to engage in traffic direction or control.

Job Scope
Approximately one hour per day (half hour in the morning and half hour in the afternoon), Monday through Friday, during the public school year (September to June) are the normal working hours. Specific hours to be worked will be set by the Village of South River (in conjunction with the South River Public School hours).

Principal Duties and Assignments
I. Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
2. Watch for gaps in traffic and walk children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.

Other Aspects of the Job
The successful candidate must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public. Smoking on the job is not permitted regardless of whether a child is being crossed or not.
The candidate must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.

Hourly Wage
$30.00/hour ($28.84/hour + 4% Vacation Pay)
