Medical Transportation Driver

Position Summary:
The Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre is looking for casual Medical Transportation Driver, under the direction of the Executive Director. The Casual Medical Transportation Driver will primarily be responsible for providing ground transportation for community members to and from their scheduled medical appointments. The Driver will ensure that all transportation forms will be billed appropriately including securing accurate information and fully completed verification data slips from all medical service providers as required by Health Canada. This role will respect and protect the rights of the clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination and their right to privacy and dignity. Vehicle safety and safe driving practices are necessary and important aspect of this role.
Job Requirements:
· Must have a good driving record with at least 5 years of driving experience in various environments and under various weather conditions.
· Adhering to all ON traffic laws and safety protocols.
· Safely driving patients/clients to/from scheduled medical appointments.
· Class G Driver’s License in good standing is mandatory.
· Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with community members, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations.
· Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal judgement and expectations on individuals and families.
· Ability to lift, push, pull and maneuver patients and/or clients safely.
· Assisting patients/clients with boarding/disembarking, including securing wheelchairs or walkers.
· Proven knowledge of case management processes and procedures.
· Completing trip logs, milage records and client documentation.
· Conducting circle checks (tires, fuel, oil) and ensuring the vehicle is clean and well-maintained.
Qualifications and Specifications:
· Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Strong communication skills; both written and oral.
· Strong time management and organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Standard First Aid and CPR
· Clean Driver’s abstract with at least 5 years of driving experience in various environments and under various weather conditions
· Glass G Driver’s License in good standing and mandatory.
· Defensive driver certification is considered an asset.
· Knowledge of safe patient lifting/handling is considered an asset.
· Ability to lift up to 50lbs and assist patients/clients with significant mobility needs.
· High levels of empathy, patience are essential for interacting with vulnerable populations.
Other:
· This is a non-emergency medical transport role.
· May require working early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call.
· Driving long distances may be necessary depending on location.
· A driver’s medical is required on an annual basis
· A clean CPIC/Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Preference may be given to indigenous candidates with relevant on reserve employment experience and/ or those with knowledge and understanding of Shawanaga First Nation history and community.
Successful candidates must be able to produce and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check
