Prep Cook (Seasonal, Fixed-Term – 2026 Season)

Position Overview
Northridge Inn & Resort is seeking one (1) motivated and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our culinary team for the 2026 summer and wedding season.
This is a seasonal, fixed-term position supporting banquet, wedding, and resort dining operations. The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting with food preparation, maintaining kitchen organization, and supporting the culinary team in delivering high-quality dishes in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work under a Red Seal–endorsed Head Chef registered with Skilled Trades Ontario. Support may be available for individuals pursuing apprenticeship or Red Seal certification.
Term of Employment
● Seasonal Fixed-Term Contract
● Anticipated Start Date: July 2026
● Anticipated End Date: October 2026
● Seasonal position with variable hours based on wedding bookings, resort occupancy, and operational needs.
This role is seasonal in nature. Employment will conclude at the end of the fixed term unless otherwise agreed to in writing. There is no guarantee of renewal or contract extension beyond the stated term.
Employment is governed by the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA).
Compensation
● $19.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
● Vacation pay in accordance with the ESA
● Overtime pay in accordance with the ESA (where applicable)
● Public holiday pay in accordance with the ESA (where eligibility criteria are met)
Northridge Inn & Resort does not provide tip or gratuity distribution for this position.
Accommodation (If Applicable)
Shared accommodation may be available in Sundridge, Ontario, subject to a separate written housing agreement.
Any housing arrangements:
● Are voluntary
● Will comply with ESA regulations regarding permissible deductions (if applicable)
● Will be clearly outlined in a separate written agreement prior to occupancy
Details regarding accommodation costs (if any) will be provided during the hiring process.
Hours of Work
● Hours will vary based on wedding bookings, resort occupancy, and business levels.
● Shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
● Overtime is paid in accordance with the ESA for hours worked beyond the applicable weekly threshold.
Flexibility is required due to the event-based nature of the business.
Key Responsibilities
● Prepare ingredients and complete assigned food prep tasks according to established recipes and standards
● Wash, cut, measure, portion, and store food items properly
● Assist line cooks and chefs during service as required
● Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas and storage spaces
● Ensure proper food labeling, rotation, and storage (FIFO practices)
● Follow all food safety, Public Health, and sanitation standards
● Assist with accommodating dietary restrictions and special requests where operationally feasible
● Maintain compliance with WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety requirements
● Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned to support kitchen and event operations
Qualifications
● Culinary diploma, current culinary student, or minimum one (1) year of relevant kitchen experience
● Valid Food Handler Certificate (required prior to start date)
● Strong interest in culinary arts and food preparation
● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
● Strong organizational skills and ability to follow direction
● Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
● Reliable transportation to and from the workplace
Working Conditions
● Commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and noise
● Extended standing, lifting, repetitive motion, and time-sensitive production
● High-volume service during weddings and peak season
