CNIB Lake Joe is a fully accessible lakefront facility located in Muskoka, Ontario providing a unique blend of recreation, skills training, social interaction and personal discovery in a safe, inclusive environment. Two hours north of Toronto, Lake Joe stretches over 12.5 acres of waterfront property on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. Staff and volunteers provide a wide range of high-quality programs to people of all ages who are living with sight loss.

Duties & Qualifications:

Job Description:

The Bus Driver will be responsible for providing a safe, inclusive and accessible transportation experience for Lake Joe participants (children, youth, adults, seniors, families) using one of our accessible buses. The Bus Driver responsibilities include ensuring that their vehicles are in good operating order and all safety and traffic rules are observed. With the support of program staff, the Bus Driver will transport guests to and from CNIB Lake Joe from different regions across Ontario, which may include day trips and/or excursions throughout the week. Drivers may also assist with town runs and picking up supplies for the camp.

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

  • Transport guests to and from CNIB Lake Joe from various locations around Ontario.
  • Always keep guest safety at the forefront; demonstrate safe and responsible driving habits when in control of CNIB vehicles and comply with all traffic and road safety laws.
  • Conduct and document a comprehensive circle check of all vehicles (16-24 passenger bus, minivan and/or other vehicles) prior to use and ensure vehicles are operating in good condition.
  • Complete required logbooks and paperwork to track mileage, driving/idle time, the amount of fuel used and number of passengers transported.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers when entering and leaving the vehicle.
  • Assist passengers with getting on and off the bus, as needed.
  • Maintain a safe environment within the bus/vehicle by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies, as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles (inside and out); alert management to any maintenance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Knowledge and Skill Requirements (minimum required)

  • Valid class B, C, E or F driver’s licence required (or ability to obtain)
  • If obtaining a new vehicle license, applicant is required to have the following steps completed before the start of employment:
    • Valid G license or higher
    • Passing mark on applicable knowledge test
    • Ability to meet vision standards
    • Satisfactory medical examination report
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (within 3 months of employment)
  • Current and valid driver’s abstract
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C, an asset
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment. Potential for overnight stay on longer trips.

Experience and Education (minimum required)

  • High school diploma an asset.
  • Related experience an asset.

Work Environment (indicate working conditions)

  • Ability to interact with clients, volunteers and staff in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects more than 30 lbs. (e.g., luggage)
