EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
PROGRAM AREA: Social Department
POSITION TITLE: Homemaker
DURATION: Permanent Position
CLOSING: Open until filled
Position Summary:
Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a Homemaker. The
Homemaker is responsible for providing in-home duties to eligible community
members. The visits are scheduled and approved by the Social Department through
the recognized Homemakers Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• To perform scheduled daily/weekly/bi-weekly/monthly light housekeeping services i.e. washing dishes, sanitizing kitchen and bathroom, meal preparation,
vacuuming/sweeping/washing floors or other duties as assigned that will assist the
community members independence or support the household caregiver.
• To ensure Homemakers duties are performed as advised by Wasauksing Health/ Mental Health & Wellness Services.
• To ensure that clients are safe and secure in their homes through phone/other media technology or face-to-face contact.
• Maintains confidentiality of services provided to community members (H.R. policy)
• The Homemaker is to report all concerns to supervisor for follow-up
• To ensure that the duties related to preparing/delivering weekly Meals on Wheels or
other arranged programming is completed.
• The Homemaker also has the right to work in a smoke free environment and/or when other harmful contaminants are present.
• Operates in accordance with and ensures compliance to the Wasauksing First Nation
Administrative, Finance Administration Law and WFN Human Resources Policies. These
may be updated and amended from time to time.
• Other duties/tasks/responsibilities as required and as assigned through the Social
Department.
• Attend all Staff/Team meetings, trainings or other meetings as directed by immediate supervisor
• Be familiar with the history and current services of Wasauksing First Nation,
Homemakers & Nurses Services Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Indigenous
organizations and government structures, and other laws, systems, and processes
applicable in supporting the business and services.
• Attend appropriate workshops, seminars, and training sessions as required and as
assigned to remain current and up-to-date on topics of concern to the work assignments of the position.
• Assisting/coordinating or direct meal preparation for households, programming, in
community funerary processes or other special events.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL
• Assisting/coordinating or direct meal preparation for households, programming, in
community funerary processes or other special events.
• Supporting peer programming or other special events.
• Collect statistics of participants in programs, home visits (and duration), travel distance or other duties of the work day for required reporting to sustain program funds. This must be produced on demand.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other
relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners.
Education & Experience:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (grade 12) or equivalent;
• Experience working with seniors, disabled or vulnerable persons.
• Ability to converse in Anishnabemowin would be an asset.
Other Requirements:
• Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate.
• Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written or working
towards it.
• Valid Driver’s License and Reliable vehicle
• Must possess excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs+ and perform day to day housekeeping.
• Knowledge of Wasauksing First Nation programs and services.
• Computer and technology skills are an asset.
• Requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector check.
